Beat Street Records

Beat Street Records was established in 1996 by cofounders Avi Shack & Wes Kuitenbrouwer. Originally a Skateboard/Clothing/Lifestyle store, Beat Street quickly evolved into a record store. A record mecca for DJs in the 90s/2000s, Beat Street moved locations 4 times, landing in the current location on Hastings Street in 2004. Beatstreet.ca went online in 2002, and has undergone 4 major changes, the most recent in March 2012. Beat Street carries all sorts of vinyl records- 12", LP, 7" - New and Used - All styles. We have approx 50,000 records in stock in our store, and more in our back room warehouse. Beat Street also carries all sorts of urban lifestyle items- Shirts, Hats, Books, Magazines, Graffiti Art Supplies, DJ Equipment, Toys and Collectibles and more. Beat Street is located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, on Hastings Street between Richards and Homer. Red Cat Records

Red Cat Records is an indie neighbourhood record store in Vancouver, voted one of the top ten indie stores in Canada by our customers (CBC 3 Searchlight, 2008.) We’re known for our customer service, music knowledge, and eclectic selection of current releases, new & used classic catalogue, and vinyl re-issues. Dave Gowans and Lasse Lutick, both former members of Vancouver-based indie band the Buttless Chaps, co-own the store. They bought the store from original owners Andrew Pearson and Amy Honey in February 2007. Red Cat takes it name from Buddy the cat, an enormous and cantankerous feline that ruled the store with an iron paw until his demise in ‘06. Though the store smells better now, he’s missed by many (though not by the children he attacked). He even inspired a full concept album by Ry Cooder: My Name Is Buddy.
