Luft
The latest addition to Prague’s record store scene is Luft, german for Air. It was founded in January 2019 and is a combination of café and record store. Very often you can see DJs playing live. Behind the counter you see Josef, and he says: “We are specializing in music for listening. We also sell our old records (house, techno, electro, brokenbeats...) and coffee, beer ... for sure. Check us out on soundcloud.com/luft-prague - there you can listen to some recordings from our store”.

randomart vinyl and fashion store
Born in Moscow, DJ and producer, co-owner of Pro–tez record label Anton Kubikov is one of the key figures of the Russian electronic music scene. His musical range extends from dub to techno and accompanied by a unique selection of the material, which can be heard on his podcasts and can be seen on the shelves at his own shop Randomart in Prague. He runs this store together with his partner, who is focused on fashion. Not too much vinyl in here, it is an interesting selection of labels like Pro-tez or Hamburgs Liebe Detail, some Lawrence etc. When you go here with Google Maps, then don't go over the bridge - the store is 50m under it ;-)

Radost 1992
This store was founded in 1992 but has been refurbished completely earlier this year, so it looks like a brand new store. Simona told me: “We sell a lot of different things - from books to ecologically made fashion and music. Our musical focus is on vinyl - Rock, Pop, Indie, Electronic, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Metal etc.”

Phono.cz
If you liked Relish, you'll love this one, too. Phono.cz opened exactly 10 years ago and has always been at this address. They sell vinyl and vintage HiFi. I visited them twice, on the 1st day I met Jiri aka Ultrafino, who helped out, on the 2nd day I met Martin, one of the owners. He said: “Phono.cz is a record store focused on vinyl culture. You can find variety of music genres in the store, mostly on LPs and mostly second hand. There is also great selection of 12"s with disco, hip-hop and electronic music and limited selection of 7"s. From rock pop to reggae, jazz, house or new wave, metal or easy listening, folklore or classical. Vinyl culture in general means Phono.cz doesn't only sell records, but hi-fi equipment as well. Vintage turntables, speakers and amplifiers with one year guarantee, belt drives and brushes, cartridges, slip mats, cleaners. Anything you need to fully enjoy listening to vinyl records is here. Phono.cz can also fix your turntable, manage a vinyl DJ with sound system for you party or rent professional VPI cleaner over weekend to you.”

Rekomando
Rekomando opened in 2006 and moved to this location in 2012. It is a combination of antiquariat and record store. On the photo you see Josef Jindrak (owner, right) and Tomas Vondra (worker, left). Tomas says: “We sell anything really, never been restricted to genres. But there is for example a bigger focus on hardcore punk, alternative/underground or indie scene. Lot of ambient, noise or avantgarde too. But you can find many pop, jazz or regular rock stuff at the same time. We try to support local scene so many individual band/label deals are done, so not just from official distribution sources. We also have second hand vinyl section and as you noticed, we also sell books, board games, wine, lemonades, tarot cards.”
HappyFeet Records
This is a nice and tiny store inside a mall. Happyfeet You’ll find new and used records, Rock, Pop, Soul, Funk, Oldschool, Disco, Hip Hop, R&B. Also some music from the Czech scene. The young guy behind the counter helps out for his Grandfather and likes to listen to the music, although he doesn’t collect vinyl. Owner is Magdaléna - she wasn’t there, because she had to dj the night before.

Relish
Relish is a record store based in the Vnitroblock complex. Owner Tris Kayo grew up in London, came to Prague four years ago and started this store in December 2017. While I was there the store was in a different room, waiting for the real location to be ready to move in. And just a few days ago he finally moved, so most of these photos were provided by him. He offers vintage and new vinyl records in all styles, movie soundtracks, rare and collectible records. Scratch and break records for the turntablists. Spoken word, audio books library recordings and records to sample from around the world. All this inside Vnitroblock @vnitroblock , an inspiring area which to me looked like a must-visit while in Prague.
