Record-stores in Paris, Idf, France
Listen!
Next stop in Paris is Listen! In the store I met Thomas and he told me: “Listen! was founded by myself about a year ago in october 2018, but I'm quite old in the game, did a website called frenchattack.com in 2003 and was a private record dealer since then, this is my first physical though. I collect rare records since the late 90's, mostly in the real world, hitting flea markets, records fair, and buying private collection. I also reissued 3 records: Israel Suite, Cossi Anatz and recently Philopsis by Jacky Giordano. Listen! is a vinyl-only general store, we provide pop rock jazz soul funk disco afro libraries soundtracks ambient A.O.R and everything in-between, from euro bin to Holy Grail. Almost everything is vintage press from the 60's to the 00's, we only selected a few reissues when it's nicely done and don't do any new release. We sell mainly jazz and pop in every form and sub-section, and have a strong connection with beloved Japan, so you will also find a lot of super clean Japanese press. You can listen every records at the listening station and we'll be always pleased to advice you :)”

Aux comptoirs du chineur
The last store on my first day in Paris was this one. Didn't really look like a record store, but when you look a bit closer, you see record boxes under and behind and between all the other stuff. Didn't have enough time to check the contents and condition, but hopefully someone here can tell us more.

Toolbox Records
💿 RSD ParticipantIf you are more into harder electronic music, Toolbox might be your preferred store. The owner Christophe started it back in 1998, but before that he already worked as a record seller and distributor. He told me: “Toolbox exists since 1998. In 2001 I started another shop called Sphénoïde, this one existed until 2006, while Toolbox had moved into the current location in 2003. We are more and more specialized into hard electronics and dub/bass music of all kind. We are 99% vinyls. The name of the shop is Toolbox, because our vinyls are DJ oriented. And we focus on the french hardtechno, because thats's our soul, our base since the beginning, producing a lot of soundsystems, artists, newcomers and oldschool... for this style we are one of the source. We fight for independance. And we produce loads of records in hardcore, tribe, hardtechno, bass music, drum and experimental every year... none of them can be found in supermarkets. So if some recordshops in the same state of mind exists... welcome and write me.”

Souffle Continu
💿 RSD ParticipantThis store exists since 2008, owners are Théo and Bernard, in the photo you see Théo. They also run a label by the same name. I like that they chose a ligature as logo, so when you write Souffle, in most fonts the three letters ffl will melt together.

Citeaux Sphere
And now we come to the first supporter in Paris. It is a restaurant with a record store. The man behind the records is Fabrice, and he told me: “Our concept store is open since May 2017, this is our first location. My brother and me are the owners. We offer a fairly wide range of LPs in many musical styles (pop - rock - hard rock - punk - jazz - blues - reggae - hip hop - soul - funk - electro - soundtracks - french music...), mainly original pressings (60's - 70's and 80's), some collectors, novelties and reissues. We also suggest to the customers who dine, a few selection of french specialities (foie gras - ravioles - tartiflette...), to be able to choose a LP which we diffuse in the shop during their meal. Our priority is the satisfaction and well-being of the customer. But also the sharing of the musical tastes of each. Our shop is one of the only place in Paris to buy records until 11pm on weekdays or sundays.” I enjoyed my time at this place and my recommendation is: Come hungry!

Betino's Record Shop
Another amazing store, this one is Betino’s. He started it back in 1999, and you won’t find too much information about it on none of the sites. In their series of “The world’s best record shops” @thevinylfactory wrote about this store: “Betino’s in Paris is a proper neighbourhood store – the kind of place where everyone knows your name – and an established specialist in all thinks funk, soul, disco, house and Latin. [...] Around since 1999, it preserves an atmosphere that has cast DJs, collectors and passers by under its spell and a great example of a store that doesn’t need gimmicks to rank among the world’s best”. I have nothing to add to this. Must-see when in Paris.

Bigwax Records
Behind the counter I met Alan and Dave. Dave told me: “Bigwax Records was founded in April 2018. Before that, I had another shop called L'International Records, since 2012. It was located not far from the new place, in the same area (rue Moret). The owners are Gregory Pezard (who also owns Bigwax Distribution, Bigwax.io and the record pressing company Squeezer), Edouard Mera and myself (Dave Kouliche). The team also includes Alan Briand (known as a music producer as Shelter), Isabelle Maitre (known as Epsilove) and Jeff Lasson (half of the DJ duo Get A room). We offer all styles of music, from jazz to classical or rock, from techno to afro, including rare and obscure records, cheapos, news and reissues. We sell mostly vinyl but we also have a selection of tapes, books and magazines. We also have turntables, needles and goodies in stock. We sell records for everybody so we have a bit of everything but we are particularly into dub, ambient, synth-pop, disco and experimental music. And we host a lot of events (release parties, listening sessions, dj sets and live shows) in the shop“. Beautiful store, friendly people, good music, I enjoyed it here.
